Earthquakes have been felt in Florida before. In September 2006, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake in the Gulf of Mexico was felt in Florida and other states. During the 2006 earthquake, products fell off shelves in parts of Florida and some Floridians saw waves in their pools, according to a USGS report. The quake was felt throughout Florida and in several other southern states, including Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and the Carolinas.
