An Echelon Insights poll commissioned by Pac News on Monday found that about 90% of Americans think it's “very” or “somewhat” important that Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris answer questions from reporters.

The Insights poll asked respondents, “How important is it for a presidential candidate to regularly give media interviews and answer reporters' questions?”
89% responded that it was “very” or “somewhat” important.

Since entering the presidential race on July 21, 2024, Harris has not held an unscripted press conference or interview about policy solutions in 37 days.
Media have not interviewed Harris on television since June 24, 2024, and the last time reporters asked her questions at a solo press conference was reportedly eight months ago, on December 2, 2023.
Harris plans to give interviews by the end of August as part of her campaign strategy to ramp up the post-Labor Day election, Axios reported on Monday, but questions remain over who she will choose to host the interviews. Politico Playbook reports that “race and gender” are key criteria for Harris' selection. Revealed.
According to the playbook, “tension” is also building over which campaign staffer should be responsible for deciding who will interview Harris, with about seven people vying for influence.
