During an outdoor interview with Newsmax, Ed Martin, who previously served as the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, was confronted by a woman who yelled at him while walking her dog. She unexpectedly approached Martin and exclaimed, “You’re Ed Martin!” When he asked, “How are you?” she then spat on him, as shown in the video.
Newsmax host Rob Schmitt remarked, “I hope she’s ready for a nice stretch in prison.” Martin later commented on the incident, referencing the importance of his coat.
Spitting in such a manner could be categorized as simple assault, which, if convicted, may result in a fine of up to $1,000 and a potential six-month jail term.
In a related note, Trump stated that he had a new nominee for U.S. attorney for D.C., adding to Martin’s ongoing efforts to enhance safety in the capital, where crime has been a persistent issue. Martin was previously unable to secure enough support from Senate Republicans for his nomination, which led to frustration among Trump’s supporters due to the GOP’s opposition.
After Trump announced the withdrawal of Martin’s nomination, it was revealed that he would take on a new role as Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice.
Trump expressed confidence in Martin, stating, “Ed Martin has done an incredible job as an interim U.S. lawyer and will move to the Department of Justice as the new director of the Weaponization Working Group.” In this capacity, Martin is expected to focus on investigating the alleged weaponization of government under the Biden administration.
Additionally, Trump introduced another candidate for U.S. attorney for D.C. who was a county judge and previously served as an assistant district attorney in New York. Trump’s remarks highlighted the judge’s significant contribution to addressing crime and supporting victims.
