Ed Sheeran’s upcoming performance in Philadelphia attracted pro-Palestinian protesters who gathered at Lincoln Financial Field. This demonstration occurred just a week after Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s concert tour, which drew significant attention and criticism.
Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, faced backlash for his “Free Palestine” messaging during his opening act at MetLife Stadium. Following this, Sheeran’s team decided to part ways with Macklemore, indicating that this decision was made by concert promoters and not directly by Sheeran himself.
Addressing the controversy, Sheeran expressed his dismay over the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and described the suffering on both sides as a “human tragedy” in a statement shared on Instagram. This response came after Macklemore alleged that he was sidelined for his pro-Palestinian views.
Macklemore also claimed that Sheeran mentioned Robert Kraft, the owner of the New England Patriots, had influenced other stadium owners to oppose Macklemore’s participation in the tour. Allegedly, the venues presented an ultimatum to Sheeran: keeping Macklemore on tour would mean he wouldn’t be able to perform at their locations.
