Eddie Murphy’s Journey Continues with New Documentary
Eddie Murphy is making waves again. The legendary comedian, now 64, is gearing up to launch a new documentary titled “Being Eddie,” celebrating 45 years since he burst onto the scene on “Saturday Night Live.”
During an appearance on the “Today” show, he shared his thoughts on fame, family life, and the intriguing prospect of returning to stand-up comedy.
Murphy hinted it might be something he would consider. “I accept it. I have to wake up at some point and feel like it’s going to be fun,” he said. Reflecting on the years that have gone by, he noted, “The last time I did stand-up I was 27; now I’m 64. It’d be like ‘grandpa in the leather suit’ when I come out. It could actually be funny.”
Having starred in nearly 50 films since his days on “SNL,” Murphy reflected on his long-standing career. “I’m still here. Just being in this business and continuing to work for so many years is a special blessing. I’m proud to have made it through with my sanity and spirit intact,” he commented.
Looking ahead, Murphy is celebrating another milestone. “2026 will mark my 50th year in show business,” he noted, calling it a significant achievement.
Even with decades of fame, he emphasized the importance of staying grounded. “I try to spend as much time as possible thinking constructively, and constructive thinking is in the present moment,” he added.
In “Being Eddie,” the documentary dives into his childhood and his early belief in his future stardom. “I thought I was going to be famous. I was always the funniest kid,” he revealed. Interestingly, he described himself not as a class clown, but as the cool guy who wore a suit to school and could mimic others.
Murphy’s career spans a mix of iconic moments, from “SNL” sketches to box-office hits like “Coming to America” and voicing Donkey in “Shrek.”
At the heart of his achievements, he credits his family. As a father and grandfather to ten, he stated, “My children are the center of everything. Family is the strongest foundation on which you build anything.” His relationships over the years include ten children from five different women, highlighting a complex but meaningful family life.
His older son, Eric, comes from his relationship with Paulette McNeely, and he shares five children with ex-wife Nicole Mitchell. Murphy’s family tree extends even further with children from other relationships, including a daughter with former Spice Girl Mel B and two children with his current wife, Paige Butcher.
And yes, he is a grandpa as well, with his son Miles recently welcoming two daughters into the family.
