Former Teacher Accused of Sexual Relationship with Student
A former educator at a Catholic girls’ school in New Orleans faces allegations of maintaining a sexual relationship with a student over several months, according to police reports. The situation came to light when the student’s mother noticed significant changes in her daughter’s behavior.
Teddy Page, 29, who taught biology at Sacred Heart Academy, was terminated from his position following these serious claims.
“When our school became aware of the recent concerns regarding one of our employees, we took this matter very seriously and immediately followed safety protocols,” a school spokesperson stated.
Page has been arrested and charged with prohibited sexual conduct involving an educator and a student, which is classified as a misdemeanor under Louisiana law.
As of Thursday morning, the police had taken him into custody, and he was released on $15,000 bail the following day.
According to local news sources, prosecutors attempted to secure a restraining order against Page, which was denied by a magistrate who noted the involved student was 18 years old and that the relationship appeared to be consensual.
In court documents, the student alleged that sexual interactions with Page occurred multiple times, including at his residence and in a vehicle parked behind a restaurant. Authorities reportedly uncovered evidence of the relationship through social media.
Documents reveal that the mother discovered the relationship after finding her daughter’s old cellphone still logged into social media, which raised her suspicions.
The police affidavit detailed that the mother observed her daughter’s mood shifts, such as increased irritability and her choice to remain at home during family outings to facilitate video calls with Page.
Upon investigating, she found explicit text messages and photos of her daughter and Page.
Reports indicate that the alleged relationship began in August of the previous year, after the student mentioned feeling a “spark” with Page during a classroom introduction. The two engaged in increasingly personal conversations over the following months.
Once the student turned 18 in November, they reportedly had sexual encounters in various locations, including Page’s apartment and vehicle.
The Academy of the Sacred Heart expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing their commitment to student safety and the procedures they followed upon learning of the allegations. Page was escorted from campus and a police report was filed immediately after his termination.
The school stated that background checks for employees have always been thorough, and there were no prior red flags regarding Page’s history.
Authorities in New Orleans have not provided further comments regarding the case.
