Educator of the Year accused of inappropriate conduct with minors

A Louisiana teacher, who was named Teacher of the Year, has been rearrested following allegations of inappropriate conduct with a former student.

Christy Oster, 38, previously faced charges of sexual knowledge of a juvenile and lewd acts against a juvenile, leading to a bond set at $50,000. Recently, she was arrested again on new charges of indecency with a juvenile, this time with a bond of $10,000, according to reports. The Broussard Police Department confirmed their collaboration with the Lafayette Police Department regarding the investigation.

Lt. Zach Gerard mentioned that the additional charge stemmed from incidents that occurred within their jurisdiction. Reports indicated that Oster voluntarily turned herself in to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office in response to a warrant.

It was noted that the victim was one of Oster’s former students. In light of the situation, she has been placed on administrative leave by the Lafayette Parish School System.

Interestingly, Oster had earned recognition as the middle school’s “Teacher of the Year” for the 2025-2026 academic year.
