Search for Missing Tourist in Juneau

Officials in Alaska are currently searching for a tourist who has gone missing after failing to return to her cruise ship following a morning hike earlier this week. The Juneau Police Department confirmed they received a report on Tuesday afternoon regarding a 62-year-old woman from Kentucky.

A family member mentioned that the woman had planned to hike up a popular mountain overlooking downtown Juneau that morning. Shortly after she was reported missing, authorities initiated both ground and aerial searches. However, poor weather conditions, including rain and reduced visibility, hampered aerial operations the following day.

Despite Juneau being a well-frequented tourist spot, local peaks can still have patches of snow in July, which may pose additional risks. The streetcars in the downtown area attract many visitors, adding to the busy atmosphere of the cruise destination. The missing person’s identity has not yet been disclosed.

Officials from both the Juneau Police and the Norwegian cruise line have not responded to requests for comments at this time.
