Senator Rand Paul Discusses Senate Bill Implications
During a recent conversation on Breitbart News Daily, Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance a major bill under consideration in the Senate. When host Mike Slater asked about its approval status, Paul noted, “There’s a push to cut it even further, to make it even better.”
However, he also pointed out pressure from those advocating against any cuts. “But they’re being pulled from the other side to say, ‘Well, don’t cut anything,'” he remarked.
Paul elaborated on Medicaid, indicating that while some work requirements might help save costs, many proposed changes could lead to states incurring higher expenses. “They will pay a significant percentage of the table,” he stated.
He added that the Senate has excluded the interests of undocumented immigrants from negotiations, suggesting that current legislative actions could influence national welfare perspectives. “But that’s the world we live in at this point,” Paul acknowledged, indicating that he feels the bill “has a lot to be desired.”
On a more personal note, he expressed concern about a proposed $5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling, which he identified as a major issue. Paul recounted a lunch conversation with the Treasury Secretary, where he sought clarity on future debt levels. “I asked him if it would be more or less next year, and he wouldn’t answer. I answered for him: it’s going to be more,” Paul stated. He anticipates that this year’s debt will reach about $2.2 trillion, contingent on economic growth, which he describes as uncertain.
“I’m still for the tax cut,” Paul admitted, although he recognized differing opinions on the matter. He reflected on the first quarter of the year, mentioning negative growth of 0.2.
