Efruz the Jack Russell Terrier is a type of Salty Dog.
The 4-year-old pup has become a local celebrity in a Peruvian beach town and spends his days surfing.
Rocking a bright yellow vest, the four-legged water lover expertly balances himself in front of his board, wagging his tail as the waves foam around him and his human surfing buddy. They are often seen having a good time.
“He loves the sea,” said his owner Mauro Canella, a surfing instructor on the beach of San Bartolo, about 30 miles from the capital Lima.
Canela said he and Effrouz became surfing buddies about a year ago.
And they're not the only dog-human duo riding the waves there, with more than a dozen dog-human duos sometimes seen on weekends.
As time passed, Efruz became colder, but he seemed to be enjoying his new sport, keeping his position firmly in front of his board as Canela glided across the water, standing, kneeling, and lying down. .
Like all surfers, both human and canine, Efruz sometimes loses control of the waves and gets thrown into the water.
But Effruz was wearing a distinctive yellow vest and simply waved it off, his owner said.
