Eight Americans taken into custody in the Bahamas after powerful firearms discovered on their boat.

Eight Americans were arrested in the Caribbean on Tuesday after police discovered “high-powered weapons” and a “significant amount of ammunition” on their boat, authorities reported.

The Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) shared that officers from the Alice Town Police Department, in coordination with Bahamas Customs, conducted a search of the vessel around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at a port in Bimini, a group of islands located about 50 miles east of Miami. However, they did not disclose the specific information that led to the search.

Ten individuals were taken into custody during this operation, including eight Americans as well as one South African and one Guyanese national. The ages of those arrested ranged from 21 to 62, but the RBPF did not release their names.

Weapons, ammunition, and cash seized

In the course of the search, authorities uncovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and undeclared cash.

Authorities reported finding three “high-powered weapons,” 11 firearms, significant quantities of ammunition, and a noteworthy amount of undeclared cash.

Under investigation

The investigation is ongoing, but it remains unclear what specific charges the Americans may face. The RBPF did not provide information on whether additional arrests are anticipated and has not responded to requests for further comments.
