Eiza González Says She Was Denied Roles For Being ‘Too Hot’

Mexican actress Eiza González claimed she lost out on roles because of her appearance in an InStyle interview published Monday.

The actress said she considered drastic measures to fit the mold of certain roles. Speaking candidly to her InStyle, the 34-year-old actress shared her dissatisfaction with her own appearance. Gonzalez has fought hard to avoid being pigeonholed by stereotypes. She says escaping the label was the toughest challenge of her career. “I think this is an overly sexualized idea of ​​Latin women,” the actress said. “It’s so unfortunate, so pathetic…None of my white friends who were in this industry understood that. It was just me.”

But her trials don’t end at the gates of Hollywood. Ms. González spoke about the harsh criticism she received in Mexico. The media heavily criticized her appearance, often saying that she was not beautiful enough. The newspaper said she had struggled with an eating disorder since her teens, which worsened when paparazzi took pictures of her on the beach showing her cellulite.

“I went through a lot of challenges with my body, my curves, my appearance,” González recalls. “It was really difficult.”
