Democratic Senate Nominee Responds to Hasan Piker’s Controversial Remarks

During a recent episode of CNN’s “OutFront,” Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, addressed Hasan Piker’s statement that America deserved the 9/11 attacks. El-Sayed deemed it a “dumb comment,” noting that Piker himself acknowledged this, and pointed out that the continued focus on Piker is misplaced given that he holds no real power aside from his online presence.

Host Erin Burnett inquired about Rep. Debbie Dingell’s (D-MI) response to Piker’s claim that America causes more death than al-Qaeda. She expressed her fatigue over the ongoing discussions surrounding Piker, suggesting she prefers to move past the conversation entirely.

El-Sayed expressed a desire to focus on issues that directly impact the people of Michigan, mentioning concerns like rising prices for gas and groceries, and access to healthcare. He indicated that figures like Mike Rogers prefer to fixate on a California streamer rather than confront the pressing problems Michiganders face, such as inflated gas prices and grocery costs attributed to the Iran War, or the economic strain from tariffs. He firmly stated that the election should center on what local residents need rather than on Piker’s comments.

Burnett further pressed, asking how El-Sayed’s campaign can distance itself from Piker’s rhetoric, especially since Piker had previously supported him. El-Sayed replied that the reason Piker’s remarks resurface is because they serve as a talking point for those reluctant to engage with genuine issues. He reiterated that Piker’s comments are irrelevant distractions from the serious matters confronting the region, like the costly wars that taxpayers are funding and issues arising from trade policies, particularly with Canada.
