Eleven Long Island middle schoolers hospitalized from marijuana-laced gummies handed out by fellow student: cops

According to police and the local school district, 11 middle schoolers from Long Island were taken to a local hospital after getting sick from eating marijuana gummies that were forced to be removed by fellow students on Monday morning.

According to Suffolk County Police, the 13- and 14-year-olds became ill after consuming THC race gummies at William Floyd Middle School in Morichs around 10:10am.

Eleven students were taken to a local hospital for further treatment, and another student returned home with their parents, the district said.

One parent, Jaylie Pereira He spoke to Newsday Neither her seventh grade son nor his friend was involved in the incident, but the ordeal still worried her.

“That's terrible,” said Pereira, 40, of Mastic. “I can't believe this is happening at school.”

During the school, Pereira found surprised parents, even the school nurses, discussing with staff, Pereira told the outlet.

“One of my mothers was crying,” she said.

There was no immediate additional information on how students obtained gummies.

No criminal charges were filed by Suffolk County police officers. Authorities say discipline is expected to be handled by the school district.
