Eli Manning and Jaxson Dart: A Shared Journey
Eli Manning and Jaxson Dart share several similarities. For starters, both were acquired through trades by the New York Giants, and they both played at Ole Miss. Interestingly, Dart began his career similarly to Manning—by sitting behind a veteran quarterback.
Recently, as the Giants secured their spot in the first round of the draft, Manning reached out to Dart. He wanted the rookie to know he could contact him if he needed advice about, well, anything really.
“I told Jaxson, ‘If you have any questions about anything, I’m here for you,'” Manning shared. This advice was meant to cover various aspects, like picking a city to settle in. But then Dart surprised him with a different kind of request: reservations at a high-end restaurant.
“Out of nowhere, it’s training camp. One day he calls and asks, ‘Do you have a moment?’ I was like, ‘Sure,’ and then he requested a reservation at 6:30 PM tonight at 4 Charles,” Manning recalled. His response was, “No, no, no, that’s not part of the deal. When I said I was happy to help, I didn’t mean I’d book your dinners.” Manning felt it was important for Dart to take those steps himself.
Dart is currently the second-string quarterback behind Russell Wilson, and he has already seen some action in recent plays, notably during the game against the Cowboys. While it’s hard to predict when Dart might take the reins full-time, Manning draws a parallel to his own experience stepping in for Kurt Warner mid-season back in 2004.
As the Giants approach a game against the Kansas City Chiefs with an 0-2 record, they are eager for their first win. The pressure is on, as always.
