Elissa Slotkin Acknowledges That Trump Has Not Given Illegal Commands to the U.S. Military

Sen. Slotkin Talks Military Orders and Trump’s Response

Senator Elissa Slotkin, a Democrat from Michigan, stated on Sunday that she was “not aware” of any illegal orders issued by President Donald Trump to U.S. military personnel.

During an interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz, they discussed the White House’s reaction to a video where Slotkin and other Democrats urged U.S. soldiers to disregard certain orders. White House press secretary Caroline Levitt had earlier claimed that Democrats implied Trump had issued illegal commands, which she denied.

When asked about the accuracy of Levitt’s statement, Slotkin mentioned that the context of issuing their statement stemmed from concerns among a “huge number” of troops and young officers uncertain about how to act.

“Let’s talk right now. Do you think President Trump issued an illegal order?” Raddatz pressed.

Slotkin replied cautiously, stating, “As far as I know, I don’t know of anything illegal. But I’m sure there’s some legal gymnastics going on with these Caribbean strikes and everything related to Venezuela.”

In a previous post on Truth Social, Trump suggested that Democratic lawmakers who encouraged military insubordination should be imprisoned.

He stated, “Those traitors who told the military to disobey my orders should go to jail now, not roam the fake news networks trying to explain that what they said was okay. That never happened, and never will! It’s mayhem at the highest level, and mayhem is a serious crime. There can be no other interpretation of what they said!”

Trump’s comments followed a video released by Slotkin, Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona), Representative Chris Deluzio (D-Pennsylvania), Representative Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), and other Democrats that claimed the Trump administration was creating a divide between military personnel and American citizens.

“Right now, threats to our Constitution come not just from abroad, but from right here at home,” the lawmakers asserted in their video.

Kelly emphasized, “Our laws are clear: We can refuse unlawful orders.” Slotkin echoed this sentiment, asserting that “illegal orders can be rejected.”

Trump reacted strongly to the lawmakers’ video, claiming he was the “first to react,” and went as far as to declare, “Sedition deserves the death penalty!” However, he later clarified that he had no plans to “execute Democrats.”
