Sen. Ron Johnson Responds to Elissa Slotkin’s Remarks

Senator Elissa Slotkin from Michigan (D) has openly discussed her desire to block the Save Act, suggesting it could hinder Democrats’ chances in future elections. In response, Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) argues that the Democratic agenda aims for a one-party state by promoting open borders, allowing unvetted immigrants to skew census data, and undermining election integrity efforts. He points specifically to their opposition to voter ID laws, portraying it as a crucial part of their strategy.

Recently, Elissa Slotkin faced criticism online after expressing her hope that the possibility of legal repercussions would make young individuals think twice before accepting positions in the Trump administration. Speaking at an event at the University of Chicago on October 13, she mentioned wanting to pursue “signature cases” against those who enabled Donald Trump’s presidency.

Slotkin explained, “I want young people coming out of school to ask themselves, should I really work for the Trump administration? While it might seem enticing, I want them to consider the potential problems that could arise. I think that kind of deterrence is important.”

Jonathan Turley, a law professor, criticized Slotkin’s statements on social media, stating she essentially revealed a hidden agenda. He contended that her remarks aimed to dissuade young people from showing support for Trump’s administration.

Her comments sparked a backlash, with Scott Kupor, director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, calling them “disappointing and unprofessional.” He remarked on social media about how it’s troubling for a senator to endorse political prosecutions that could deter Americans from serving their country. Kupor emphasized their commitment to attracting the best early-career talent.

A University of Chicago student, Michael Bicksel, shared his feelings about Slotkin’s comments, indicating they made him and fellow conservative students worry about potential political backlash if they were to serve in the Trump administration. He criticized her tactics, labeling them “Bolshevik-style,” and asserted that they wouldn’t be intimidated.

The discussion around Slotkin’s remarks coincided with comments from former President Barack Obama, who criticized the Trump administration for investigating Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) based on her political views. Obama expressed that Americans should be outraged by any administration’s attempts to frighten individuals due to their political beliefs.

Interestingly, a commenter pointed out the apparent hypocrisy, drawing parallels between Obama’s criticisms and Slotkin’s calls for investigations. Omar is currently under scrutiny from federal agents for her immigration paperwork and financial disclosures, though it remains unclear if the inquiries are related.

As the midterm elections loom, Slotkin’s comments have intensified discussions about how Democrats might wield congressional power if they regain control of the House or Senate.
