Elizabeth Smart Embraces Bodybuilding Journey
Elizabeth Smart is showcasing her resilience as she embarks on a new journey into bodybuilding. Recently, she shared a striking photo on social media, highlighting her fitness progress.
Now 38, Smart, once known for her harrowing kidnapping story, expressed her excitement about this new undertaking. She posted a picture that revealed her impressive shape, accompanied by a candid reflection on her transformation.
“I can imagine the surprise from people seeing me on stage in a bikini,” she wrote. “Honestly, if someone had asked me a couple of years back whether I’d ever participate in a bodybuilding event, my answer would’ve been a definitive ‘No way! Not in a million years!'”
Smart participated in the Wasatch Warrior Competition in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she competed in the entry-level fit model category. In this event, she secured first place in the novice division, second in Class D, and third in the Masters 35+ division, which she seems quite proud of.
Reflecting on her achievements, Smart commented, “I’m really proud of my body and I want to celebrate it. It has endured all my tough days, supported me through incredible challenges, and helped me raise three wonderful children. I refuse to feel ashamed of it.”
Smart’s backstory is well-known; she was abducted from her home at the age of 14 back in 2002, enduring a traumatic experience that lasted many months. She was taken by Brian David Mitchell and his wife, Wanda Barzee, and held captive across several locations. Eventually, authorities located her in 2003 after witnesses recognized her captors.
Mitchell was ultimately convicted and sentenced to life in prison, while Barzee, who admitted to her role in the abduction, was released in 2018 but faced legal issues again in 2025.
This year marks a significant milestone for Smart as she continues to strive for her goals, competing not only locally but also at national stages, hoping to earn her IFBB pro card. In a telling statement, she expressed, “I’m eager to embrace new challenges and live life joyfully. I wish for everyone to find the bravery to chase after new opportunities and happiness.”
