Elizabeth Taylor’s pal reveals the most extravagant gift she gave to Michael Jackson

Elizabeth Taylor was famous for receiving lavish gifts from her seven husbands, but the Hollywood icon wasn't shy about pampering her friends.

The screen legend, AIDS activist and one of the last symbols of Hollywood's golden age died in 2011 at the age of 79. Her legacy is being joined by two new documentaries exploring her life and legacy titled “Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes” on HBO. and “Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar,” produced by Kim Kardashian. We also started real estate apparel line.

Her longtime executive assistant and friend, Tim Mendelsohn, told Fox News Digital that his boss liked to go big with gifts.

“In 1991, she married a man she met at the Betty Ford Center. That shouldn't have happened, but they fell in love,” said Taylor's last husband, Larry. – Mendelsohn said, referring to Fortensky.

“They were married at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch,” Mendelsohn said. “As a thank you gift, she gave him an elephant named Gypsy.”

“Sure, she had a national car, but she gave the elephant as a surprise gift to Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch,” Mendelsohn laughed.

In return, Taylor received a titanium elephant wallet.

When it came to family, Taylor also loved to pamper them. And if they inherited her dazzling eyes, they got a special collection from her.

“She had amazing blue eyes, but people always said they were purple,” Mendelsohn explained. “Both her sons and her brother Howard had dazzling turquoise eyes. She always bought them the best cashmere sweaters to match their eyes. It had to be a soft cashmere sweater. They must have had an entire shelf full of them in that color because of their eyes. ”

“She wasn't afraid to overextend her pocketbook to give someone the perfect gift that only she could give,” he said. “When someone lost a dog, she was the first to get them a new pet. Dog, cat, whatever animal they wanted, she gave them one.”

If you wanted to impress a movie star, you had no choice but to gift her with jewelry. Mendelsohn recalled that one of Taylor's favorite pastimes was having him bring her boxes of various diamonds just to look at them.

“She had a jewelry box,” Mendelsohn recalled. “She was like a little girl admiring her gifts, and she really had beautiful pieces, especially from the two loves of her life, Mike Todd and Richard Burton.”

“She had a lot of emotional work [Burton]” Mendelsohn added of the man Taylor was married to twice.

According to Taylor's website, Burton had been giving her gifts over the years “just because.” During their affair in Rome, when he brought her to life in the 1963 film Cleopatra, he frequently took her shopping for emeralds and diamonds.

“I can't deny that Richard gave me lavish gifts for birthdays and Christmas, but the truth is he was so romantic that he would use any excuse to give me jewelry,” Taylor wrote in her book. I am reminiscing about it. A love affair with a jewel. ”

“He gave me a gift that said, 'It's Tuesday, I love you,'” Taylor wrote. “'It's nice weather' presents. 'Let's go for a walk. I'd like to buy you something.' presents. Over the years, I've given these 'It's Tuesday, I love you.' ' and I never knew when he would come up with the most extraordinary ring or something so lovely and simple.'

It was also Burton who bought her some of her greatest jewelry, including a pear-shaped 69-carat diamond that became known as the Burton-Taylor Diamond. She then auctioned it off to fund a hospital in Botswana.

Taylor would go on to own one of the most important personal collections of jewelry in America. vanity fair Reported. We featured rare pearls, diamonds, rubies, and emeralds. Many of Taylor's rare works were put on the auction block by Christie's.

Mendelsohn said Taylor did not discriminate when it came to jewelry.

“When I first started working for her, it was her 60th birthday,” Mendelsohn recalls. “I saw a pair of earrings that she thought she might like. They had amethyst in them and were sparkly. They weren't expensive. They were about $100. She was very impressed and thought they were similar to her style. So I got it for her and she was so excited to be thinking about them.”

When Taylor was honored in 2000, she returned the favor.

“I remember wanting this watch called the Black Watch. I thought it was really cool,” Mendelsohn said. “I didn't ask her to, but while she was looking for jewelry, she bought two and said she was going to give them to her sons. We went back to L.A. and just fooled around. And she turned around and handed me the watch and said, “This is yours forever.''

“The Black Watchmen are actually the men who protect the Queen,” Mendelsohn said. “She gave the other watch to another close friend, Jose, who is a hairdresser. She felt, 'This man watches in the same way that the black guards watch over the Queen of England. They are watching over me.''

Kyle MacLachlan, who co-starred with Taylor in the 1994 film The Flintstones, recently claimed that Taylor “had to bring a gift every day” while bringing the live-action version of the comic book to life.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, host of the Dinners on Me podcast, yelled, “Wait, wait, stop. Did she have a gift?”

“Every day is a gift,” the “Sex and the City” alum reiterated.

“And in the dressing room and in the trailer, there had to be greenery around her. And I said those things translate right into my contract…It's a gift every day.”

McLachlan, 65, gave the example of “jewelry” as a gift the “National Velvet” star would expect.

“It's a sell-out,” he added, noting that he heard about it from producer Bruce Cohen. “Bruce probably said to me, ‘Don’t tell anyone that.’ I think it’s too late.”

Although The Flintstones was Taylor's last film, she continued to appear on television, including in the 2001 TV movie These Old Broads.

In “The Flintstones,” Taylor played Wilma Flintstone's mother, Pearl Slaghoople.

After her death in 2011, “The Flintstones” producer Bruce Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter, “The moment she said yes, we wanted it to be a special experience for her.” .

“Lavender was her favorite color, so we built a lavender staircase up to her trailer and filled her trailer with lavender flowers on her first day of work. We also gave her a gorgeous gift on her first day of work. We wanted to do that too since it was the day of production. ”

Cohen said she whispered to him when he visited her home for a wardrobe fitting before filming began. “'Darling, you know I love gifts on the first day of shooting.'” I said, “Yes, I've heard of this tradition.” Then she whispered, “I like Cartier, darling.”
