Warren Praises Mamdani’s Focus on Affordability
It’s all about steel, apparently.
Senator Elizabeth Warren, known for her progressive stance, expressed her support for Zoran Mamdani, a socialist candidate for mayor, highlighting his strong focus on affordability. Their joint appearance at the DC37 Union Building was aimed at promoting his universal childcare initiative, and Warren noted that Mamdani initiated an important conversation.
“In my view, New York City is where affordability plays a crucial role; it’s really the core reason I align with the Democratic Party, a starting point to discuss how to implement this effectively,” she remarked.
“That’s the Democratic message… Zoran is at the forefront of this fight and, honestly, is advocating for his family,” she added.
While Warren’s commendation is notable, it seems Mamdani is still facing challenges in garnering backing from prominent Democratic figures, including Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries, both well-known New Yorkers. Interestingly, they had shown support for him after the Democratic primary resulted in the defeat of former Governor Andrew Cuomo.
Warren, who notably did not run for president in 2020, has recently critiqued Cuomo, who is planning to run as an independent this November, alongside the current mayor, Eric Adams.
“Cuomo and Adams are tripping over themselves, trying to collect campaign funds from billionaire donors,” she pointed out, emphasizing her frustration with the influence of money in politics.
“Mamdani is taking actionable steps to enhance affordability in New York, proposing to fund these initiatives through taxing the ultra-rich and large corporations,” she claimed.
