Ellen DeGeneres confirms that Trump played a role in her decision to move to the UK: 'We're staying here'

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Move to the UK

Ellen DeGeneres has announced that she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have decided to relocate to the UK following President Trump’s recent reelection victory.

The former talk show host, now 67, shared details about their new life during a conversation with British presenter Richard Bacon at a stage event in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Initially, they had plans to stay in the UK for just a few months, but with Trump’s historic win over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in November, they chose to make their stay more permanent.

Since moving, the couple has settled in a renowned area of the Cotswolds, popular among Hollywood’s elite.

“We came here the day before the election and woke up to a bunch of texts from a friend who was crying. I said, ‘He’s in,'” DeGeneres recalled. “And we simply said, ‘We’re staying here.’

Having married in 2008 after a four-year romance, they are clearly committed to their new life across the pond. They have purchased a vast farmhouse in the region for around $18 million, not too far from London.

Their days now include tending to horses, chickens, and dogs.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” DeGeneres expressed. “We’re not accustomed to such beauty. The villages, towns, and architecture—everything is fascinating, and it truly represents a different way of life.”

“It’s beautiful,” she reiterated. “Everything here feels right—the way animals are treated, how polite people are. I love it here.”

DeGeneres also hinted at the possibility of marrying once again in the UK, saying, “The Baptist Church in America is trying to reverse gay marriages. They literally aim to prevent it from happening in the future and possibly undo it. Portia and I have looked into getting married here.”

She indicated that a return to show business could be on the horizon, though she noted that her new project would deviate from the format of her previous show.

“I still don’t quite know what that is,” she mentioned, adding that her career plans are still taking shape.

“I want to have fun; I want to do something. I enjoy my time with the chickens, but I feel a bit boring,” she admitted.

While the couple seems to be adapting well to life in the British countryside, things haven’t been entirely smooth. They faced some disagreements with their British neighbors regarding an extension on their multimillion-dollar home.

Despite this hiccup, DeGeneres has continued to thrive, even selling one of her properties in the United States.

The reasons behind their choice to settle in the Cotswolds remain unclear, yet it is known as an area of picturesque charm and wealth, favored by numerous British celebrities.
