Elliot Page Says Despite Feeling ‘Trans Rage’ and ‘Trans Anxiety,’ Being Transgender Is a ‘Richer’ Life Experience

Transgender actor Elliot Page (formerly actress Ellen Page) recently spoke about why transgender people are “lucky” and said that life has been a “richer” experience since he became a trans man.

Paige came out as transgender in 2020 and then underwent a double mastectomy in 2021 to live her life as a man, and now says it was the right decision.

“I love being transgender because I love transgender people. I feel so blessed to have had this experience in my life, what it has given me, how much it has taught me, and the community it has connected me to,” Page said. Said Grammy Award-winning singer Sam Smith said in a podcast, Pink House.

Page added that being transgender is a “great life hack”, arguing that what was once “unbearable” is now “exciting”.

“It may seem like a small thing to some people, but to me it’s so exciting and exhilarating to be able to have a whole new experience,” Page continued.

Page acknowledged that she sometimes experiences “trans anger,” “trans anxiety” and “trans fatigue,” but said that overall there is a pervasive feeling of peace.

“I was really worried because I never thought I’d feel the way I do now. I feel so blessed to be transgender. It certainly means enduring discomfort and pain, asking hard questions, and doing painful but important and crucial work on myself. I know all of this has enriched my life,” Page added.

Speaking of experiencing mood swings, Page recounted being reduced to tears during a trip to Lisbon for a film shoot. Avocado Seed.

“I remember at one point I got emotional and started crying because I thought, ‘This is how people feel when they go on vacation.’ This is how people feel. They’re out there and they feel amazing and they’re connected to their surroundings,” Page recalled.

Since completing her full gender transition, Page has stepped up her activism.

In September, The Umbrella Academy Starr said it was important to open people’s minds to gay issues.

Page also reportedly argued that acting awards need to be “gender neutral.”

Some major awards shows, including the Oscars, have already done away with categories like “Best Actress” in order to be more neutral, and Page agrees with the trend.

“Yeah, I think that’s a good idea,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “And again, this singular aspect of it being the only category, that’s where that sort of thing happens, right? So hopefully, we start to move beyond that degree of binary thinking.”
