Billionaire Elon Musk has suggested that Google may have been wrong in omitting its search feature following the assassination attempt on former President Trump.
Musk took to social media to highlight how Google’s search autocomplete feature was omitting results related to the July 13 shooting. Google denied taking any steps to limit results.
“Wow, Google just banned searches for President Donald Trump,” Musk wrote. “Election interference?”
“If they interfere in an election they will be in big trouble,” he wrote in a follow-up post.

A Google spokesperson told FOX Business that “no manual actions were taken against these predictions.”

“Our systems have protections against autocomplete predictions related to political violence and were working as intended before this horrific incident,” the spokesperson wrote. “We are working on improvements to make our systems more up to date.”

Google to require political ads to disclose AI use during 2024 election
According to users, the keyword “Trump assassination attempt” did not result in any additional search terms from Google.

“Big tech is once again trying to interfere in our election to help Kamala Harris,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X. “We all know this was deliberate election interference by Google. It’s so despicable.”
A Google spokesperson further said that autocomplete is “just a tool to save people time” and allow users to search for what they want.

“In the wake of this horrific act, people have turned to Google to find quality information. We connect people with useful results and will continue to do so,” the company said.
