Elon Musk Rebrands SpaceX AI Following Trump’s Executive Order

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX, is in the process of rebranding the company’s artificial intelligence division. This comes after an executive order from former President Donald Trump, which suggests that AI should now be referred to as “Super Intelligence” (SI).

Musk confirmed the change to the division’s name through a post on X, stating that SpaceXAI will transition to SpaceXSI. He expressed his approval, noting, “Yes, we will make that change,” and added, “No more AI. SI, it’s better.” It’s an interesting shift, for sure.

The executive order titled “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence” supports this new terminology, arguing it more accurately portrays the capabilities of the technology. The directive will affect public communications and government documents, although references in congressional statutes will remain unchanged until lawmakers make revisions.

This decision aligns with Musk’s long-held belief that advanced technology surpasses basic AI. He has maintained this view for quite some time, long before AI tools, like chatbots, became mainstream.

Musk has a history with this concept, having endorsed Nick Bostrom’s 2014 book, “Superintelligence: Paths, Dangers, Strategies.” The book warns about the potential dangers posed by uncontrollable super intelligence, which Musk has cautioned could be a greater existential threat than nuclear weapons.

This rebranding also reinforces Musk’s connection with the Trump administration. During Trump’s presidency, Musk served as a special adviser and xAI’s Grok technology was used for various government projects.

The AI division was established just a few months ago in July when SpaceX acquired xAI in a significant $1.25 trillion deal. Changing the name from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI marks its second major rebranding.

Before the acquisition, xAI operated as an independent startup founded by Musk in 2023, and later acquired X Corp., previously known as Twitter. Quite the journey for Musk and his ventures.
