Musk Accuses Omar of Treason Over Comments
Elon Musk has labeled Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s past remarks as treasonous. This accusation stems from statements where she expressed her commitment to protecting Somalia’s interests in the U.S., assuring voters that the administration would act in their favor.
On X, Musk stated, “This sounds like treason,” sharing a video clip of Omar speaking to Somali voters in Minnesota during 2024. This video gained traction online, especially after being shared by Musk himself.
Omar’s comments date back to January 2024, when she mentioned to her supporters in the Twin Cities her intention to prevent the Republic of Somaliland from establishing a naval base on Ethiopia’s coast.
It’s worth noting that Minnesota hosts the largest Somali refugee community in the U.S., most of whom live in Omar’s district. In her speech, a translation indicated that she told her audience, “The U.S. government will do everything we ask.” She emphasized the need for self-confidence among Somalis in the country, mentioning taxpayers and the significance of representation, as “one of your daughters sits in Congress.” She assured her constituents, “No one will take Somalia’s waters while I am in Congress, and the U.S. won’t support others to plunder from us. Minnesotans, don’t stress.”
This resurfacing of Omar’s video caught attention following President Trump’s remarks during a rally in Pennsylvania, where he stated he would prioritize Somalia over the U.S. He made comments about Omar, describing her as “the little turban” and criticized her actions, saying, “She comes and just doesn’t do anything… She comes from her own country, which is considered the worst country in the world, right?” He further remarked that she should be “gotten rid of once and for all,” as the crowd chanted “Let her go!”
Trump also directed criticism at Omar and the Somali community, referencing the involvement of various Somali immigrants in a fraud scheme in Minnesota, which has led to numerous arrests and charges.
He additionally took aim at Governor Tim Walz, whose administration oversaw the fraud issue that resulted in a significant financial loss for the state, estimated at $1 billion.
In a response to Trump’s remarks, Omar tweeted that his obsession with her is “beyond abnormal” and suggested he needs help, labeling him as a “national disgrace.”
Efforts to reach out to both Elon Musk and Ilhan Omar for comments have been initiated.
