Elon Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Clash at the White House
Elon Musk recently found himself in a heated argument with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent after being labeled a fraud.
The conflict erupted in mid-April during a meeting to discuss a proposed Internal Revenue Service plan from Trump’s administration. Ultimately, President Trump sided with Bessent. Former White House official Stephen Bannon shared insights about the tension following the encounter.
According to Bannon, after leaving the Oval Office, the two men exchanged harsh words, revealing their mutual disdain within earshot of the presidential office.
Bannon recounted that Bessent accused Musk of being “a complete scam.” This verbal exchange soon turned physical when Musk, described as the world’s wealthiest individual, drove his shoulders into Bessent’s ribs “like a rugby player” and provoked the Treasury Secretary to retaliate.
Multiple people reportedly had to intervene to break up the scuffle, leading to Musk being swiftly escorted out of the West Wing.
Trump, upon hearing about the incident, expressed his disapproval, saying, “This is too much,” Bannon relayed.
Days following this tumultuous event, Musk’s social media activity took a strange turn, with him criticizing commanders over a significant bill that was, somewhat ironically, supposed to benefit him as an owner of X.
The fallout was evident as Trump openly voiced his disappointment regarding Musk, mentioning in the Oval Office that he had “helped Elon a lot.”
In light of the ongoing drama, Musk faced allegations of withholding documents concerning Jeffrey Epstein, leading Trump to claim that Musk had become “crazy.” The president even threatened to cancel “billions and billions of dollars” in federal contracts and grants linked to Musk’s ventures.
Bannon further ignited the situation by calling for an investigation into Musk’s immigration status, insisting he should be deported “quickly.” Despite Bannon’s statements, Musk is reportedly an American citizen originally from South Africa.
The White House and the Treasury Department have not commented on the incident, and a representative for Musk was also unavailable for immediate response.
