Elon Musk for Speaker Call ‘Might Have Been a Little Tongue-in-Cheek’

Last week, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested that Tesla CEO and Trump supporter Elon Musk could become Speaker of the House.

Paul's remarks were taken very seriously by the mainstream media. But given the media's efforts to paint Musk as a pro-Trump conservative villain, that may be a little too serious.

In an interview with Fox News Channel's Maria Bariromo that aired Sunday, Paul said the proposal “may have been a bit of a joke.”

“Well, maybe it was a bit of a joke,” Paul said. “I think Elon has important work to do, building rockets and building Teslas. But I appreciate his input, and he changed the discussion. We've been talking about it for 10 years, calling attention to it for nothing. Tomorrow, we celebrate the festival that is Seinfeld. But in it we end up talking about a lot of waste. ”

“We talked about ridiculous, crazy things, like $760 million spent on diversity, equity and inclusion at the NIH,” he added. “I thought they were studying science over there. No, it's about race. That's crazy – $600,000 to discuss why microaggressions exist among obese Latinos. What the hell does that mean? Even Latinos think Latino is a stupid term. These are people who don't know their gender. Latinos, who are the fat people who are causing microaggressions to each other? This is crazy. This is why we can't rest until we cut spending, and the debt ceiling without actually cutting spending. You can't raise it.”
