Representative Kat Cammack has claimed that Democrats are unfairly targeting Elon Musk’s wealth through unconstitutional tax measures.
This week, SpaceX revealed plans to construct the world’s largest semiconductor factory, covering over 100 million square feet in Grimes, Texas, near Houston.
The facility, named TerraFab Texas, is described by its owners as the largest and most valuable building on the planet. Musk stated on Thursday that “it will be stunningly beautiful.”
The project is a collaboration with Musk’s electric vehicle company, Tesla.
According to a Thursday press release from SpaceX, the facility will manufacture chips optimized for edge computing to support hardware like Tesla’s Optimus robot and the self-driving CyberCab, along with powerful chips for SpaceX’s space-based data centers.
Despite market fluctuations, experts are optimistic about SpaceX.
SpaceX indicated that the combined need for chips from both their operations and Tesla’s is expected to outstrip global supply.
They acknowledged the importance of their current chip suppliers and encouraged increased production, noting that the anticipated supply-demand gap highlights the necessity for TerraFab.
The company plans to hire over 3,000 workers, with the initial phase of the project projected to cost around $16.8 billion.
Recently, Texas Governor Greg Abbott put a hold on new data center projects pending a state grid audit.
Musk pointed out that TerraFab is a significant step forward, enabling manufacturing to shift back to the U.S. while creating thousands of well-paying jobs in Texas. He remarked on the potential to produce AI chips on a large scale for uses on Earth and in space.
Initial investment for the project was proposed at $55 billion, but it could escalate to a total of $119 billion, as noted in a May filing.
As of now, the Pentagon holds the title for the largest building in the U.S., while China’s New Century Global Center in Chengdu is recognized as the largest globally.
