The British establishment has been trying for quite some time to persuade Tommy Robinson to shift his focus. As an independent journalist, Robinson highlights various issues, including the effects of mass immigration, the actions of British elites, the shortcomings of multiculturalism, and serious crimes by Islamic extremists. Notably, his work also brings attention to the scandal involving rape gangs in Pakistan.

Robinson could be facing a return to prison, but now there’s a new twist with the involvement of the world’s richest individual.

On July 28, 2024, after organizing a political rally that was smaller than the massive 100,000-person march he led on September 13, he was detained by Kent Police for allegedly breaching terrorism laws while attempting to travel to Spain, where he currently resides.

The charge against Robinson involves obstructing police counter-terrorism efforts by not providing the PIN to his mobile phone, which was seized during his arrest, according to reports from Sky News.

In accordance with terrorism laws, individuals in custody must allow officers access to their mobile devices.

Robinson expressed frustration, stating to the police, “You don’t stand a chance, Bruff. You’re such a liar that it’s not going to happen.” He emphasized that his phone contained sensitive “journalist material” regarding vulnerable individuals.

In a video, Robinson remarked, “Can you believe I’m being charged under the Terrorism Act just because I didn’t want to disclose my sources? No other journalist in the UK seems to be addressing this issue.”

The officer who detained Robinson, Mitchell Thorogood, testified that he recognized Robinson before pulling him over as he approached the Channel Tunnel, partly due to the luxury vehicle he was driving, which was not his own. There was an implication that this was somewhat unusual behavior for him.

Robinson’s lawyer, Alisdair Williamson, termed the counter-terrorism operation a “fishing expedition,” arguing that Robinson was targeted because of his political beliefs, which fall under a protected characteristic. He stated, “It’s evident. He was unlawfully stopped and detained for 40 minutes, being asked questions about his political stance.”

Robinson criticized the procedure, claiming that the officer failed to adhere to legal protocols. He stated, “This is purely an attack based on my political views. There are no terrorism charges or any crime given. I’m in court simply because I’m Tommy Robinson.”

The prosecution, led by Joe Morris, countered that the police had valid reasons to question Robinson due to his notoriety and links to far-right groups.

If convicted—Robinson has pleaded not guilty and is currently in Israel, as invited by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—he could face months in prison, a fine of $3,355.80, or both. The trial is expected to conclude on November 4.

Robinson also claimed that Elon Musk is financially aiding his legal defense efforts. Earlier in the year, Musk had expressed his intention to support Robinson, particularly in light of a lawsuit tied to his extended solitary confinement.

Musk previously tweeted about Robinson’s situation, questioning why he is in solitary confinement for speaking the truth, while the individuals associated with covering it up should be held accountable instead.

On the political front, left-wing MP Daisy Cooper commented on the situation, expressing alarm at the reported collaboration between Musk and Robinson. She called for an investigation into Musk’s influence, suggesting it could pose a threat to democracy.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded to these concerns, acknowledging that a comprehensive assessment of threats to democracy is ongoing, though he chose not to comment on specific incidents.
