SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made a bold prediction about the future of human habitation on Mars, predicting there will be cities on the red planet within 30 years.

Musk said an unmanned mission to Mars could be accomplished within five years, but landing humans on Mars could take less than 10 years. He further predicted that cities could be built on Mars within 20 years, and certainly within 30 years, securing the future of human civilization beyond Earth.

SpaceX, founded by Musk in 2002, was the first private company to develop a liquid-propelled rocket that successfully reached orbit, and the first to send a spacecraft and astronauts to the International Space Station. .
