Musk said an unmanned mission to Mars could be accomplished within five years, but landing humans on Mars could take less than 10 years. He further predicted that cities could be built on Mars within 20 years, and certainly within 30 years, securing the future of human civilization beyond Earth.

One user commented: “It’s unimaginable for so many people… I wish I could live another 10 years just to see this progress.” Another said: “Between AI, VR, and now Mars? I never expected any of that to happen in my lifetime. That’s pretty incredible.”

While many people seem excited about the possibility of a Martian city, it’s important to note that Musk has a history of offering highly unrealistic timelines.website Elon Musk today It provides a comprehensive timeline of the number of days since Elon announced the project and has yet to materialize. Here are some examples:

  • 2,065 days since Musk said SpaceX would likely build a base on Mars by 2028.
  • 2,640 days since Musk received funding for his planned lunar space tourism flight in 2018
  • 1,852 days since Musk said there will be 1 million fully autonomous Tesla robotaxis within a year
  • It’s been 3,159 days since Musk said Tesla’s range would reach 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) within one to two years.
  • It’s been 2,422 days since Mr. Musk said a SpaceX rocket could soon transport passengers from New York to London in 29 minutes.

SpaceX, founded by Musk in 2002, was the first private company to develop a liquid-propelled rocket that successfully reached orbit, and the first to send a spacecraft and astronauts to the International Space Station. . However, it should be noted that SpaceX has not yet taken humans out of low Earth orbit.

Musk’s Mars ambitions date back to 2001, when he announced the development of Mars Oasis, a project aimed at landing greenhouses on Earth to grow plants. In a recent post ahead of the launch of the Falcon 9 rocket, he emphasized that SpaceX’s mission is to “extend consciousness to Mars and to the stars.”
