Musk’s Custody Plans Amid Transgender Controversy

Elon Musk has announced his intentions to file for full custody of his one-year-old son on Monday. This decision follows comments made by the child’s mother, Ashley St. Clair, in support of the transgender community.

Musk, the billionaire founder of Tesla, expressed concern over St. Clair’s recent shift in views about transgender issues, particularly in relation to their son. In a tweet early Monday, he stated, “In light of her comments hinting at the possibility of transitioning our 1-year-old boy, I will be filing for full custody today,” which ignited considerable backlash on social media.

However, there’s no clear evidence that St. Clair had previously indicated any desire to change their child’s gender.

Notably, she had recently issued an apology on social media, distancing herself from her earlier remarks about transgender people.

St. Clair revealed last year that she had given birth to Musk’s 13th child, transforming from a right-wing commentator to someone facing scrutiny for her previously held views.

Musk’s decision to pursue custody seems to have been influenced by a social media user’s suggestion that he seek full care of their son.

This user also pointed to St. Clair’s recent apology regarding her past comments, where she expressed “immeasurable guilt” for her role in perpetuating what some labeled as “blatant transphobia.” She mentioned her struggle with feelings of guilt, especially if her words had negatively impacted her child’s sister.

“I feel like I’ve worked incredibly hard to learn and advocate for those within the trans community that I’ve hurt,” she wrote.

Interestingly, Musk’s other child, Vivian, came out as transgender in 2022, prompting a complex dynamic within his family. St. Clair remarked, “I haven’t said much about this… because this issue can be branded as dishonest or just flipping things around,” acknowledging the sensitivity surrounding the topic.

In her response, she requested guidance on how to provide support, stating, “Even this response is going to be right-wing hysteria, but I’m sorry. Please tell me how I can help.”
