Elon Musk has publicly backed Congressman Byron Donald (R-FL) in his run for Florida governor.
“Congratulations Byron! You definitely have my full support,” Musk tweeted Wednesday night, following a February announcement where Donald declared his candidacy.
“Thank you @elonmusk!” Donald replied. “I’d be honored to have your full support.”
This endorsement arrives as Governor Ron DeSantis (R) is term-limited and cannot run again. Donald has also gained endorsements from other prominent figures, like Rep. Jimmy Patronis (R-Fla.) and former President Donald Trump.
“I hear that Congressman Byron Donald is considering a run for governor, which I think is fantastic,” Trump commented in February. He highlighted Donald’s past electoral successes and called him “an absolute winner” who would work to fortify borders, combat immigration crime, boost the military, support veterans, revitalize the economy, and uphold America’s energy leadership and Second Amendment rights.
Trump expressed confidence in Donald’s potential as a “truly great and powerful governor of Florida,” encouraging him by saying, “Run, Byron, run!”
Reports from September indicated Mr. Donald holds a considerable advantage in primary polls among other candidates.
The initial data demonstrated that when voters were presented with Donald, Collins, and Renner, 40% preferred Donald. However, 54% remained undecided.
The pollster then conducted “informed” polls where voters had more knowledge about the candidates, including Trump’s endorsement of Donald to succeed DeSantis. In this scenario, Donald garnered 57% support, with Collins at 2% and Renner at 1%, while 38% still weren’t sure.
Commenting to Breitbart News over the summer, Donald shared his vision for elevating Florida further.
“We’re lucky to be in the best state in America. We have solid leadership here,” Donald said.
“Governor DeSantis has steered our state effectively, and now it’s about building on that success. What about the future of transportation? We need to make it easier for people to navigate our cities and state. And regarding insurance,” he added.
“We need to keep working to lower costs,” he stated, expressing his belief that Florida could position itself as the financial capital of the world within a decade.
