The special event, titled “We, Robot” after Will Smith's dystopian film “i, Robot,” was held at Warner Bros. Studios in California. The event began with Mask arriving in the Cybercab. The CyberCab features a two-door, fully autonomous setup that event attendees were able to ride around the studio.

“The autonomous future is here,” Musk declared. “We have 50 fully autonomous cars here tonight. You can see the Model Ys and the Cyber Cabs. All driverless.”

Musk went on to further discuss the new CyberCab. He said fully autonomous taxis will be available “by 2027” and will not have steering wheels, pedals or charging ports because they are not needed.

“There's no steering wheel, there's no pedals, so I hope this works,” Musk joked during the presentation.

Musk also revealed that the vehicle will be available for $30,000 and people can purchase the vehicle and rent the vehicle to customers.

Musk also added that self-driving technology is still being developed for obvious safety reasons, which could affect the release date.

“We will go from fully autonomous driving with supervision to fully autonomous driving without supervision, where… you could fall asleep and wake up at your destination,” Musk revealed.

Another high-profile Tesla vehicle, the Robovan, is a 20-passenger, futuristic-looking bus that Musk vaguely mentioned could serve the needs of personal or commercial use. The CEO added that the vehicle can also be configured to transport goods.

“Robovans are the solution to densification,” Musk said. “If you want to take a sports team somewhere, or if you want to keep transportation costs down to 5 to 10 cents per mile, you can use Robovan.”

However, the price of Roboban and when it will be available for purchase are currently unknown.

Musk also introduced the latest version of the Optimus robot, which can pour drinks and converse with event attendees. The robots will reportedly be available for a price of $20,000 to $30,000, and the robots can “do whatever you want them to do.”

“So what can you do? You can do anything you want,” Musk said. “So you could be a teacher, babysit a kid, walk the dog, mow the lawn, buy groceries, be a friend, serve drinks, whatever you can think of. He will do whatever he can.”

“I think this is going to be the biggest product ever for any child,” Musk continued.
