Elon Musk’s X Begins Hiding Likes For Users

X is introducing “private likes,” which are expected to appear on users’ timelines from Wednesday.

New Delhi:

Elon Musk confirmed on Wednesday that a new feature will be introduced for X users that will hide all “likes” by default.

X is introducing “private likes,” which are expected to appear on users’ timelines from Wednesday.

This means that users’ likes on the platform will be hidden by default, allowing them to “like content without worrying about who is seeing it.”

“It’s important that people can like posts without being attacked,” Musk said.

Last month, X’s engineering director Haofei Wang said the change was meant to protect users’ public image.

“Yes I will make my likes private because public likes encourage wrong behavior,” he posted to X.

For example, many people hesitate to “like” content that they consider to be “extreme” because they fear retaliation from trolls or to protect their social image.

“Soon you’ll be able to like posts without worrying about who sees them. We’ll also let you know that the more posts you like, the better our recommendation algorithm will be,” Wang said.

According to the social media platform, the “like” is between you and the author.

“The poster will be notified, but no one else will be notified. Only the poster will be able to see the bookmark. It can also be customized for users,” Wang said.
