Elon Musk’s X Expands Lawsuit Against Advertisers, Adds Amazon’s Twitch as Defendant

business insider report Elon Musk's X Company announced it has expanded its legal battle against advertisers by adding Amazon-owned video streaming platform Twitch as a defendant in an ongoing lawsuit. The complaint, originally filed in August, accuses members of the now-defunct Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) of illegally conspiring to withhold advertising revenue from the platform.

Company X's decision to include Twitch in the lawsuit shows that the company has no intention of backing away from the legal battle, even though GARM was shut down days after the initial lawsuit was filed. The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA), which led the GARM initiative, said it intended to fight the allegations in court and was confident of complying with competition rules.

The amended complaint alleges that at least 18 GARM members, including Twitch, Mars, CVS Health, and energy company Ørsted, stopped advertising on Twitter between November and December 2022. Specifically, X claims that Twitch does not purchase any advertising on Twitter. It is on the US platform and has only spent small amounts in other parts of the world since November 2022.

Some advertisers are starting to return to X, perhaps due in part to Musk's increased political influence following Donald Trump's US presidential election victory, but the platform has yet to meet advertiser demand before acquisition. has not fully recovered to that level.
