The social media company recently announced it plans to hold a town hall meeting with the former Republican president.
Details about the town hall have yet to be announced, but it is known that in addition to X, the network will also broadcast the livestreamed event through a partnership deal. News Nation.
X plans to hold a similar town hall meeting with independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr.).
President Joe Biden was offered the opportunity to hold town hall meetings and debates during the speech but declined the invitation.
Musk acquired the social media platform formerly known as Twitter for $44 billion in 2022. He then renamed the platform from Twitter to “X” and appointed a woman named Linda Yaccarino as its new CEO in June 2023.
The idea of holding town hall meetings on the platform was suggested by Yaccarino.
The Tesla CEO said he bought Twitter with the hopes of making it “a platform for free speech around the world.” Musk has always been a vocal supporter of free speech, calling it a “social imperative for a functioning democracy.”
Following President Trump’s “guilty” verdict on Thursday, Musk appeared on X to defend the Republican presidential nominee.
“Today certainly did great damage to the public’s faith in the American justice system,” the Tesla CEO wrote in a post on X.
“If a former president can be convicted on such a minor issue that is motivated not by justice but by politics, then anyone could risk a similar fate,” Musk added.
