Elton John: This could make Trump 'one of the best'

Elton John Discusses Trump’s Presidency

Elton John recently acknowledged some of President Donald Trump’s accomplishments in foreign policy but stopped short of labeling him as one of America’s greatest leaders.

The iconic musician elaborated on what, in his view, qualifies Trump for a place among the most significant presidents in U.S. history.

Last year, John applauded Trump’s nickname for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, “Rocket Man,” a reference to one of John’s songs. However, he later faced criticism for seeming to endorse Trump for the 2024 presidential election.

In a follow-up on Instagram, John clarified his stance, mentioning that he was simply recognizing Trump as a long-time admirer of his music who has been historically gracious.

During a recent interview, John continued to give credit where he felt it was due. He also praised Republicans who supported his mission to find a cure for AIDS.

“Bipartisanship is common sense,” he said, reflecting on the progress in medical science. “If we think about it, this is a disease that could potentially be completely cured.” He speculated further, indicating that if Trump could resolve issues related to peace, that would be a significant accomplishment.

“If he wants to be remembered as one of the greatest presidents, eliminating AIDS would certainly be a remarkable achievement,” John added.

He discussed Trump’s role in peace negotiations, expressing hope for a resolution to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict. He characterized AIDS as another conflict that is being prolonged due to governmental barriers preventing access to necessary medicines.

“It’s incredibly frustrating to see the crimes against so many people because of governments’ inaction and intolerance,” John remarked. “If people would just treat each other with compassion, the spread of AIDS could be curtailed.”

During Trump’s first term, he initiated a campaign titled Ending the HIV Epidemic, unveiled during the 2019 State of the Union address.

Trump stated back then, “We’ve made significant strides in the battle against HIV and AIDS recently. Scientific breakthroughs are bringing us closer to our goals.” He aimed for the eradication of the HIV epidemic in the U.S. within the next decade, claiming, “Together, we will defeat AIDS here and globally.”
