Rock star Elton John said in a Variety video that he found the nickname former President Trump gave to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “very funny.”
“I just thought it was so funny when he did it,” John said. He said in the posted video Trump on Sunday referenced his past calling the North Korean leader “Rocket Man” and “Little Rocket Man.”
“It made me laugh,” John continued.
The former president has had a complicated relationship with Kim Jong Un in recent years, calling him a “madman” during a 2015 Republican debate and telling famed journalist Bob Woodward in an audiobook released in 2022 that they “got along well.”
“Donald has always been a fan of mine and has come to a lot of my concerts,” John said in a Variety video. “So, [I’ve] I have always been friendly towards him… I appreciate his support.”
John will perform at the White House in September 2022, where he will be presented with the National Humanities Medal by President Biden. In an interview with Variety, John declined to explicitly pick a side in the upcoming election, but pointed to former Vice President Dick Cheney's warning against Trump.
“America is in a very volatile situation right now. America is a country that I love and always have loved, and I'm so grateful for how it has shaped who I am today,” he said.
“So I want people to vote for what's fair, what's important to them: the right to choose, the right to be who they are, and not have other people tell them what they should be. And that extends all the way to the Supreme Court.”
President Trump criticized Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (Republican). April Podcast Episodes He made an appearance last year using the nickname “Rocket Man.”
“I should call him Rocket Man, but now he's a crashing Rocket Man,” Trump said of DeSantis. “His polls are terrible. I'm leading him in every state.”
Trump's comments came before DeSantis ran for president but was unable to defeat the former president. DeSantis dropped out of the Republican primary in January and has since endorsed Trump.
