A TV chef and author tragically lost her life in a helicopter crash on a citrus farm in South Africa on Monday.

Mynie Stephens, who was 43 years old, was flying her helicopter to spray pesticides when it struck a power line and crashed around 8 am in the Eastern Cape province. Reports indicate significant damage to the helicopter, according to the Accident and Incident Investigation Unit.

Images from the scene showed the wreckage, which was scattered across the grass near the farm.

Authorities expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.”

Stephens was well-known as a co-host on the cooking show “Speelmet Vuur,” which translates to “playing with fire” in Afrikaans. She teamed up with Aldi van der Walt, a longtime friend from her school days.

She published a cookbook titled “Mynie Plays with Fire” in 2021 through Penguin Books in South Africa. The book features a variety of recipes focused on South African barbecue, known locally as braai, which involves cooking over an open flame.

Stephens often shared videos of her helicopter adventures on social media, showcasing her vibrant personality.

Van der Walt remembered her fondly, saying, “Mynie had a big heart and a kind soul. She brought people together.” She further noted that Stephens lived life passionately, constantly bringing her creative ideas to fruition.

“Making time for people from all walks of life was a priority for her,” Van der Walt added.

The channel VIA TV also honored Stephens in a memorial post, reflecting on her adventurous spirit and how she encouraged others to approach life with curiosity and courage.

Rest in peace, Mynie Stephens.
