Olivia Miles Shines for the Minnesota Lynx

The Minnesota Lynx have developed a reputation over the years for selecting players who fit well into their system during the WNBA Draft. This year, they made a strong choice with Olivia Miles.

Drafted as the No. 2 overall pick from New Jersey, Miles is quickly establishing herself as a standout player. In a recent game against the Connecticut Sun, the Lynx triumphed 101-89, and Miles set a new rookie scoring record, surpassing the previous mark held by Caitlin Clark.

She scored 21 points in the game, breaking the record that Clark set in 2024. Reflecting on her achievement, Miles said, “It’s special, but it means we’re more so working well as a team. I have great teammates around me, great vets who allow me to be me out there. It wouldn’t be possible without a coach that believes in you and then having teammates that have my back. So it’s really special to accomplish that with such a great team and on a win as well.” It’s interesting how she emphasizes teamwork here, perhaps acknowledging how vital it is for any player’s success.

This season, Miles has tallied 790 points across 40 games. Even with the schedule expanded this year, both she and Clark managed to set their records in the same number of games.

Clark previously recorded 769 points in her debut season with the Indiana Fever. Interestingly, Miles has also broken several of Clark’s rookie records this season, including one where she hit eight three-pointers in a game against the Golden State Valkyries in June.

Moreover, Miles is the fastest rookie to achieve 350 points, 100 rebounds, and 100 assists, reaching that milestone in just 21 games—one game faster than Clark and Andrea Stinson of the former Chicago Sting.

This impressive performance has placed the Lynx at a solid 32-10 this season, currently leading the league by a game over the Valkyries. It’s a good position to be in as they push for a championship, and with a player like Miles on the roster, it seems like they have a bright future ahead.
