Emma Watson Reflects on Her Harry Potter Experience

Emma Watson recently opened up about how her time filming the Harry Potter series has influenced her perspective on the entertainment industry.

During an episode of Jay Shetty’s podcast titled “Intentionally,” the 35-year-old actress discussed the unique experience of working on all eight films over a span of 12 years. “It’s quite uncommon to be part of a movie over such a long period,” she remarked. She emphasized the sense of community they built, which led her to have certain expectations of other workplaces.

Watson, who rose to fame as Hermione Granger starting at age 11, noted that the close bond with her co-stars made transitioning to different film sets difficult. On these new sets, she found herself feeling isolated, realizing that not everyone sought friendships like they had in the Harry Potter cast. This experience led her to question whether she was cut out for Hollywood.

“I’m not thin,” she said, reflecting on the pressures of the industry, “and maybe I’m just not suited for such a highly competitive environment. It was overwhelming.” Yet, she felt a sense of pride in the journey she had, stating, “I have moments when I’m truly proud of myself, even if there are things about this industry I really struggle with.”

Watson admitted that while she enjoyed acting, the promotional side of things was particularly challenging for her. In a recent interview, she expressed mixed feelings about her earlier career, saying she felt lucky to have had the opportunities, but there were aspects of the work that didn’t sit well with her.

Following the conclusion of the Harry Potter series, Watson starred in several notable films, including “Beauty and the Beast” and “Little Women.” However, after her role in “Little Women,” she decided to step back from acting.

“The promotional aspect can overshadow the artistry of the work itself,” she shared, admitting that this was a significant factor in her decision to take a break.

In a special honoring the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter, Watson’s co-star Rupert Grint revealed that there were times during the series when she considered stepping away after her fourth film. The sudden fame was daunting for her; she told Grint, “I think I was scared and unsure of how to handle it all.”

Throughout the eight films, Watson, Grint, and Daniel Radcliffe developed a close-knit friendship, and their experiences together shaped a significant part of their careers.
