Macron to speak amid political turmoil
The French President Emmanuel MacronAfter several days of turmoil in French politics, the president is due to hold a press conference this morning.
The far-right National Rally party won a landslide victory in France’s European elections, prompting President Macron to call for early parliamentary elections.
The move has sent politicians from across the political spectrum scrambling to forge new alliances and prepare for two rounds of voting, scheduled for June 30 and July 7.
Yesterday, the leader of France’s mainstream right-wing Republican Party said: Eric Ciottishocked some politicians inside and outside the party by saying he supported cooperation with the far right in the elections, and his future within the party remains unclear.
