Emmanuel Petit Condemns Rioters in France

French soccer star Emmanuel Petit has expressed strong disapproval of the rioters causing chaos in cities across France. He took to Instagram to voice his intense anger, telling these individuals—whom he believes harbor hatred for the country—to “go back from where you came.”

This 1998 World Cup champion reacted passionately over the weekend when protests escalated into destructive riots, resulting in burning cars, looted shops, and ravaged streets. Reports noted that more than 2,400 rioters have been arrested nationwide.

What began as protests against school policies and rising living costs rapidly transformed into a scene of chaos. Groups donned in masks vandalized storefronts and ignited vehicles, compelling riot police to use tear gas in cities like Paris and Marseille. President Emmanuel Macron acknowledged the turmoil, admitting to feelings of “anger and shame.”

Pettit’s remarks were pointed as he criticized the lawlessness evident in these riots. He condemned the rioters as “thugs” and described their actions: destruction, theft, and violence.

He contrasted these groups with hardworking taxpayers who are struggling under the weight of inflation and government policies, saying, “You shouldn’t mix up the people who protested yesterday, and I understand their frustrations.” He sympathized with ordinary families who diligently fulfill their responsibilities while feeling neglected by their government.

Petit also addressed immigration matters, welcoming those who respect France, while telling agitators that they aren’t wanted. “I love my country and all foreigners who love it and want to integrate,” he expressed, but added a clear message to those who do not share that sentiment: “go back from where you came.” He did not spare criticism for those born in France who join the violence, stating, “We don’t want you anymore.”

The former footballer did not hold back his criticism of the political elite, including Macron, urging them to prioritize the safety of law-abiding citizens. “Be very careful about what you are going to do,” he warned, emphasizing the need for action to protect honest citizens.

Petit concluded by calling out the failures of the government apparatus, lamenting that essential services like law enforcement, healthcare, and education are underfunded while taxes continue to rise. “There’s no money for the police, the army, hospitals, or schools,” he stated, highlighting a troubling dynamic in the country’s financial priorities.
