Jamie Lee Curtis has something special: 40 years of marriage.
The award-winning actress married her husband, Christopher Guest, in 1984, just four months after meeting him.
The “Everything Everywhere All at Once” star was asked about the secret to a lasting marriage.
“Well, I can't leave,” Curtis told Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet after winning an Emmy for The Bear.

“I've been sober for a long time, too. There's a phrase in recovery that goes, 'If you stay on the bus, the scenery changes,' and, you know, that's marriage. If you stay on the bus, the scenery changes.”
“All of a sudden, you literally want to hate each other. But the next day, it's a beautiful sunny day. Your dog does something cute. Or your kid does something cute. And you look at each other and you're like, 'Oh my God,' and then you go your separate ways again.”

“That's the truth. You're going to hate each other. You're not going to break up. Don't let that hatred cause you to make choices that you'll regret. I think that's really the secret.”
After their marriage, Curtis and Guest adopted two daughters, Annie and Ruby.
“I think patience, long-suffering, kindness and a really good dose of hate.”
“My husband and I are polar opposites,” she told Good Housekeeping in 2018. “It's always been that way for the last 33 years, and it always will be that way.”

“He's an intellectual, I come from a movie star/alcoholic/drug addict background where education wasn't that important. We don't listen to the same radio stations. We don't read the same newspapers. We don't go to bed at the same time.”
Curtis rose to fame playing the role of Laurie Strode in John Carpenter's hit horror film Halloween.

Producer Debra Hill said she cast Curtis because her mother was an icon in the horror world, and that it would be “great publicity” for the film.
