Emmys host Anthony Anderson weighs in on Jo Koy’s rocky Golden Globes performance

Emmy Awards host Anthony Anderson has spoken out about Joy Koy's widely criticized performance at the Golden Globes.

In an interview with FOX News Digital, the 53-year-old comedian shared his thoughts on the criticism Coy received after hosting the 81st Golden Globe Awards on January 7. Following the backlash Coy received, Kevin Hart and Michael Che have warned their colleagues against the comedian hosting future awards shows.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” Anderson said in an exclusive press preview of the 75th Emmy Awards. “There will be criticism.”

He continued, “Even if you do great things or bad things. You can't satisfy everyone.”

“But it's a job that has to be done, and it's the job best suited to get it done,” Anderson added. “The Academy, the Emmys, the Oscars, the Golden Globes choose the person they think is the best person to do the job. And that's what we do.”

In an interview with Sky News published on Friday, Hart, 44, declared he would never host the Academy Awards.

“Whatever little hope you had, I want to dash it right now,” the “Lift” star told the outlet.

“A show like that is not a good show for comics,” he added. “There's no chance for an Oscar or a Globe or anything else. It's not a good environment for comedy anymore.”

Hart has previously hosted the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Movie Awards, and BET Awards.

In 2019, the comedian was scheduled to host the Oscars for the first time, but he caused controversy when old homophobic tweets surfaced. At the time, Hart revealed on Instagram that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had demanded that the host be replaced if he did not apologize.

Mr Hart said he had “chosen to forgo an apology” and had “addressed” his past comments several times. Additionally, he said he believes he has grown and changed as a person and that he is “in a completely different place in life.”

Within hours, Hart announced he was stepping down from hosting the show and apologized to the LGBTQ community for his “past insensitive comments.”

In an interview with Sky News, Mr Hart praised comedians for their success in hosting awards shows, but claimed the job was easier for comedians who already had connections in the industry.

“Shout out to the guys who cracked the code early on and did it right, you know, girls like the Chris Rocks of the world, the Billy Crystals of the world, the Tina Feys, the Amy Poehlers. .Ricky Gervais,'' Hart said.

“A lot of people understand that if you don't have an industry comic, a comic that depicts all kinds of relationships, the room is very cold,” he added. It's not a gig like it used to be. There's too much pressure on comic ideas and what's a joke and what's not. That's why it's so difficult. ”

Choi expressed similar sentiments in an Instagram post she shared on January 8, which has since been deleted. In 2018, Che and “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update” co-host Colin Jost hosted the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards.

“Comedians should boycott hosting awards shows,” the “SNL” star wrote, according to the New York Post. “For one thing, it is [sic] It's very difficult to make movie stars laugh. They are too self-conscious to have a good time. ”

He continued, “Secondly, they don't even want to laugh. They're busy thinking about their careers and their speeches and their 'cause'… They want to be made fun of. But that's not really the case. Actually, I just want the trophy. And I want a nice photo.”

“What I'm saying is it's not fun for anyone,” Choi added. “Trust me, I know everyone. We all hate it.”

However, Anderson told FOX News Digital that he is excited to host the Emmy Awards. “Being the host of the 75th Emmy Awards is a really big deal for me,” he said.

“This is my only chance to win an Emmy, because I'm 0 out of 13,” he joked, referring to his past nominations. “But no, today is a special day.”

Anderson continued, “As we celebrate history and the 75th Emmy Awards, we honor the shows and creators who not only shaped my career, but shaped and changed the television landscape and the way we view it today. represents its organizer.”

On Thursday, Emmy Executive Producers announced that the ceremony will feature cast reunions and reenactments of classic moments from more than a dozen beloved shows in television history.

Series such as “All in the Family,” “Grey's Anatomy,” “Game of Thrones” and “Martin” will receive special treatment at a ceremony Monday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. As a result, many productions received set direction. “Cheers” bar. The awards ceremony honors decades of television history, from the 1950s to the present day.

“It's very special,” Anderson told FOX News Digital. “I salute the show for creating an environment where actors like me can appear and do what we want to do.”

“It's going to be a great night,” Collins said. “Anthony is the perfect host to take us on this journey. And that's what's going to happen. We're excited about the reunion, the combination of hosts, the music, and really, all these shows. I'm just trying to capture the emotion that it creates in all of us TV fans, and I think that's the emotional drive of the show.”

She continued, “'Cheers' is a really good example.
