Police released the 911 tape made by Vontae Davis’ personal assistant after he was found dead in his Florida home.
The former NFL player’s death this week shocked the football world, but investigators are still searching for answers as to the cause behind the 35-year-old’s untimely death.
Local law enforcement said Davis’ personal assistant made the initial 911 call after a woman in the home found Davis unresponsive in the gym area of the home. Reported by WPLG.
“She arrived and he was on the property,” the assistant called 911. “She froze. He called me, but she didn’t say anything, so I called.”
“The last time I saw him was Friday, and I know someone saw him on Saturday, one of the drivers,” she told dispatchers in another clip of the call.
Dispatchers were able to contact the woman who first discovered the information by phone, and portions of the conversation were redacted before publication.
Police ruled there was no suspicion of foul play in Davis’ death.
Cleaning and restoration workers and security guards were seen with detectives at his grandmother’s mansion in Southwest Ranches, Florida, on Tuesday, WPLG reported.
Davis appeared in 121 games over a 10-year career, including stints with the Dolphins, Colts and Bills.
He was selected to the Pro Bowl twice with the Colts and signed a one-year contract with the Bills in 2018, but retired midway through a game in September of that year.
Davis recorded 22 interceptions and 97 passes defensed during his career.
Colts owner Jim Irsay wrote a touching tribute to Davis in X.
“Very saddened to hear of the passing of Vontae Davis. A great man, teammate, and player. My prayers go out to Vontae’s family,” Irsay wrote.
