X users were quick to respond, praising the golf star for his heartfelt response to the national anthem.
Scotty should be given serious consideration as the flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony.

The Olympics really ground you and make you realise where you really are. What a great day for Scheffler.

Scheffler has had a tough year on and off the field. The world-class golfer made headlines earlier this year when he was arrested after allegedly dragging a police officer with his car following what appeared to be a misunderstanding as he was entering the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky on May 17.
But winning a gold medal for the country he clearly loves makes a much better story.
