Employee at PNC Park strikes fan with belt in unusual incident

During a game on Sunday against the Padres at PNC Park, a Pittsburgh Pirates employee reportedly became embroiled in a dispute that escalated dramatically. The situation became bizarre when he loosened his belt and started whipping fans, as documented in videos shared by local CBS outlets.

Witnesses said the altercation arose after some fans allegedly harassed employees at a women’s concession stand. PNC Park staff, apparently concerned for the women’s safety, intervened in the escalating tension.

What followed, as shown in videos from bystanders, involved intense exchanges between fans and employees before physical confrontations began.

Video clips online captured the chaos, although the lack of audio leaves the exact words exchanged unclear.

At one point, tensions flared further when fans reportedly spat in the employee’s direction while maintaining a few feet of distance.

As the altercation progressed, the employee removed his belt and began striking the fans.

In a statement released on Monday, the Pirates announced that the employee was “quickly suspended” and that the incident is currently under investigation.

The team expressed awareness of this “unfortunate incident” that took place after the game and stated they are reviewing security footage from the event alongside the videos circulating online.

The organization reiterated that such behavior is unacceptable and noted that immediate action was taken, with further inquiries ongoing.

Pittsburgh Police were present during the incident and are involved in the ongoing investigation, as reported.

This season at PNC Park has been anything but ordinary. Just last week, fans fell from the stands, and there was controversy when the team removed a tribute to the late Roberto Clemente, upsetting his family.

On the field, the Pirates suffered a setback, losing Sunday’s game 4-0, followed by another loss against the St. Louis Cardinals (6-3) on Monday.

These teams will square off again at Bush Stadium on Tuesday night at 7:45 PM (Eastern Time).
