Ending deportation protections for Somalis in Minnesota

President Donald Trump has declared the end of protected status for Somalis in Minnesota.

On Friday, he announced on Truth Social that the deportation protections for Somali nationals residing in Minnesota will be lifted, “effective immediately.”

“Minnesota, under Governor Walz, is a hub of fraudulent money laundering activity. I am, as President of the United States, hereby terminating, effective immediately, the Temporary Protected Status (TPS Program) for Somalis in Minnesota. Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great State, and BILLIONS of dollars are missing. Send them back to where they came from. It’s OVER!”

This announcement follows a report from the Manhattan Institute which claims that funds from the Feeding Our Future program were funneled to Somalia through informal money-transfer systems. Investigators suggest that some of this money may have ended up with the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab.

Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in the U.S., estimated to be between 74,000 and 86,610 individuals.
