(PA Media) – The Football Association and Football Supporters' Association are investigating after England fans were subjected to heavy-handed police control and tear gas before a Nations League match in Greece.
Lee Carsley's side were cheered on by 3,500 away supporters in Thursday's crucial Group B2 fixture at a packed Olympic Stadium in Athens. England secured a 3-0 win against Greece on a night that began with some fans dealing with excessive policing on their way to the ground.
An FA spokesperson told the PA news agency: “We are aware that some fans have had a difficult experience off the ground and we are still learning exactly what happened.”
FSA's Free Lions Fan Embassy posted on X: “Unfortunately, we once again have to ask England supporters to send us any eyewitness accounts of the situation outside the Athens Olympic Stadium.
“Despite being told in advance how things would turn out, in some cases the exact opposite happens, with local police using shields and tear gas to do something as simple as rearranging a queue. It's just unbelievable and frustrating to see how our fans are treated.
“We will be announcing further details in the next 24 hours, but in the meantime, if you are a fan, please email your experience to infothefsa.org.uk and we will work with the FA to ensure that FansEurope and, by extension, UEFA “I intend to cooperate with them.” It has already been noticed.
